The necessary documentation to travel

Airport

The time of our vacation is approaching and we start planning them: we look for the best rate for our tickets and the best accommodation option, we consult different websites to soak up the destination and not leave anything important to visit, we even look at what Other travelers say about those places. But sometimes we forget something as important as the necessary documentation to make the trip.

Pay attention to these recommendations.

When booking

The valid document to travel is the passport. You can use the ID for trips within the Schengen Area , but it is not usual. The driver’s license is not a valid document to be identified.

Keep in mind that the data entered at the time of booking, especially in the case of airline tickets, must be exactly the same as those in the passport. If, for example, our name is composed and as such appears in the passport, we will have to indicate it this way in the reservation, no matter how much we usually use one of the names.

The passport

Generally, the passport must be valid for more than 6 months after the date of travel (it may be higher in some destinations). Do not wait until the last moment to renew your passport; Sometimes it is difficult to get an appointment to do so, especially in periods prior to the high season (Easter, summer, Christmas and bridges).

Some countries may prohibit you from entering if you have stamps from certain places in your passport (for example, certain Arab countries will deny you entry to their territory if a previous stay in Israel is reflected in your passport). Also if your passport is damaged or shows signs of having been tampered with.

Visas

Some countries require a visa to allow access to their territory. Others, although they do not request it for Spanish citizens, do require prior travel authorization (such as the United States or Canada, among others). There are companies that can do the work for you for a certain price, but ultimately it is your responsibility to obtain it when necessary.

To know if you need a visa to enter the country you are going to visit, it is best to check with your Consulate or with the Consular Section of the Embassy of the same. Keep in mind that sometimes these instances are not in Spain. You can also inform yourself through the following link on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

Keep in mind that visas usually have a cost, require time for processing (do not leave them for the last minute), and sometimes they are processed online. And remember: even if you have obtained your visa or travel authorization, the Immigration Authorities of the country can deny you entry to it upon arrival.

The Travelers Registry

In addition to providing the complete data of your trip to a family member or friend, it is convenient that you register in the so-called “Travelers Registry” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, to be contacted and / or located in case of emergency. You can do it online through the following link .

Children, including babies, must travel with their documentation in order as adults.

In case they travel alone, accompanied by only one of their parents, or by third parties, in addition to the aforementioned documentation, they must carry:

– Written and express authorization of the parents, the absent parent or who has been granted parental rights.

– Document proving the parentage or parental rights (variable depending on the country of destination; it is best to consult with the Embassy or Consulate of the country in question).
